The Master Clease Recipe

I just realized that (after reading a few emails) that my site doesn’t have actually have the simple recipe for the infamous master cleanse. I know most of you read have this committed to memory but there are so many out there who are curious or have no idea about what the lemonade diet actually does!

So here the The Master Cleanse Recipe from Stanley Burroughs

  • 2 Tbsp lemon or lime juice (it turns out you can get about 4 Tbsp from a single lemon or lime)
  • 2 Tbsp Pure Grade B Dark Amber Maple Syrup (do not substitute!)
  • 1/10 Tsp cayenne pepper (red pepper) or to taste
  • 10 oz water, medium hot (spring or purified water)

This for a single serving spicy lemonade concoction. However, being that you can drink as much of this as you want and should drink it every time you get the hunger, I would definitely recommend y0u DO NOT actually make this one glass at time. The recipe scales and I would try to make a whole days worth of the master cleanser drink every morning. Almost everything can be picked up a your local market or at Whole Foods Market and Trader Joe’s if you are lucky enough to live near either one of those.

I should have a recipe scaler for you pretty soon, so you can enter the size of your container and it will let you know what you need to purchase to make the spicy lemonade and also tell you the correct proportions for the size of you container.

I think I am going to do the cleanse again sometime soon, when I do I plan on keeping a daily journal for you to track my progress!

what is the lemonade diet

The lemonade diet is a detox plan that is discussed in a book called ‘The Master Cleanser’ written by Stanely Burroughs. The term ‘lemonade diet’ is actually the nick name given to the master cleanse program. It actually has numerous names such as the lemon detox and the maple syrup diet.

What is special about this diet is, unlike all the current fads and gimmicks appearing lately, is the lemonade diet has been around longer than you have. ‘The Master Cleanser’ book was first published on April 24, 1974. Yes that says seventy four, as in over thirty years ago. In this book published over 30 years ago, Stanely  wrote

“The lemonade diet first proved itself in healing of stomach ulcers over forty years ago.”

If you do the math you can see people have been using this detox diet since before you were born (most likely)

The lemonade diet typically lasts for 10 days, although some people have done it for an entire month and some even longer! During this time you do not eat any solid foods and only drink the lemonade. The lemonade is a mix of maple syrup, lemons and cayenne pepper. It tastes like spicy lemonade, which is actually not nearly as bad as it sounds. I found myself actually craving the spicy lemonade concoction for a few months after the cleanse. I plan on doing the cleanse again after the new years and will write about my progress as I do, so be sure to add me to your favorites and check back frequently.
